Individual applicant’s wishing to be registered on the Register of Australasian Security Professionals can be registered as either a “Registered Security Professional” or an “Enrolled Security Practitioner”.

Registered Security Professional

To be registered as a “Registered Security Professional” an applicant must demonstrate that they have met the requirements of either one of two paths; either amassing 40 or more points through demonstrated qualifications and technical competencies or providing evidence to the peer review process that they meet the technical competencies through a significant body of work related to their experience of security as a management discipline. In addition both paths will require the applicant to agree to comply with the Principles, Code of Conduct and Behaviours required of a security professional.

Applicants wishing to be registered as a “Registered Security Professional” must provide a statutory declaration together with the application form that sets out their commitment to the Principles, Code of Ethical Conduct and Behaviours.

Applicants wishing to be registered as a “Registered Security Professional” must also provide appropriate written references.

The initial fee for Registration as a Security Professional is A$350.00 (including GST and a non-refundable application fee of A$50.00).

Should an applicant be unsuccessful, the fee, less the non-refundable application fee will be refunded.

Registration fees are valid for 3 years from the date of registration

Enrolled Security Practitioner

To be registered as an “Enrolled Security Practitioner” an applicant must demonstrate that they have amassed at least 20 points.


In addition applicants must agree to comply with the Principles, Code of Conduct and Behaviours required of a security professional. Applicants wishing to be registered as an “Enrolled Security Practitioner” must provide a statutory declaration together with the application form that sets out their commitment to the Principles, Code of Ethical Conduct and Behaviours.


Applicants wishing to be registered as an “Enrolled Security Practitioners” must also provide appropriate written references.


It is anticipated that Enrolled Security Practitioners will over time or through the obtaining of additional qualifications reach the level of Registered Security Professionals.

As you will note from the points document, to obtain at least 40 points which is required to be a registered security professional, you must have obtained some formal academic qualifications in addition to membership in relevant industry and non-industry organizations and work experience.

Applicants who meet the 40 points level must complete Part 1 and Part 2 of the application form only.

Those that have obtained at least 20 points will be required to complete Part 1 and Part 3 of the application form. The applicant will be assessed as to whether they can be registered as a “registered security professional” or if short of the required level of experience as an “enrolled security practitioner” with the potential of being accepted as a registered security professional when the appropriate level of experience and/or qualifications have been obtained.

The initial fee for Enrolment as a Security Practitioner is A$200.00 (including GST and a non-refundable application fee of A$50.00).

Entities

Whereas the Register is primarily designed to register individuals, we have also established a mechanism by which entities, firms, or organisations, can become associates to the Registry.


An associate entity will be required to confirm its support and acceptance of the Principles, Code of Ethical Conduct and Behaviours established by the Registry and demonstrate a culture consistent with the objectives of the Registry.


It is anticipated that associates will participate in activities developed by the Registry and the Australasian Council of Security Professionals (ACSP) and demonstrate high standards of professionalism, ethics and commitment to the community.


It is anticipated that associate entities will encourage appropriate colleagues and staff to become Registered Security Professionals


The benefits of becoming an associate entity include:


•    use of the SPR-A logo on marketing and promotional materials;
•    access to research and educational programmes developed by the Registry;
•    reciprocal rights and benefits with other national and international security associations in terms of delivery of CDP for example;
•    networking opportunities through events established by the Registry and the ACSP as well as by other associated entities in the security field;


It is anticipated that associate entities will also receive preference in tendering.

 

The initial fee for membership of the Registry as an associate entity is $5,000.00. Fees are valid for 12 months from the date of registration.

The subsequent fee for membership of the Registry as an associate entity is $1,500.00.
